Paula Radcliffe did not manage to do what she had hoped, and had the following to say at the end of the race in Beijing: "I was trying to achieve the impossible I guess. I felt comfortable but my legs had gone. It's just really frustrating. I was going to this finish line no matter what - that was my race this year. I tried to go after Dita but my legs just didn't have it there. There was nothing else I could do.
"I knew I was pushing it. You can't take shortcuts in a marathon. I guess I learned that today.
"How old's Constantina [the Romanian winner]? I could do that in London if my body holds together."
So - will Paula go for the 2012 Olympics in London? Will this be the time for her to win? One thing you have to believe is that she gives it her all when she runs. Who else will come through and put a challenge in the 2012 London Olympics? We have 4 years to produce a real quality runner, and I am sure Britain has not one but a few. It is a gruelling race and takes a lot of conditioning to win a gold medal, or any medal for that matter, so lets hope our hopefuls remain injury free and can put in the necessary training to take the honours.
