As with all things, target have to be set in order to make them viable for the money that is spent. The UK Sport Agency agreed on the amount of money for the Beijing Olympics, and the target for GB was set. They decided on around 35 to 41 medals in total, with 10 to 12 of those gold. Our team certainly out did them selves they achieved the highest number of medals since 1908. The Beijing Olympic Games total was 19 gold’s, 13 silver and 15 bronze medals which made a total of 47 altogether.
Money goes a long way to get things done, but it also takes talent. Our 2012 London Olympic athletes certainly do have the talent. We have some of the top sports people in every sport, but do we have the desire to want gold badly enough ?That has to come from the management and the coaches. They need to instill into the sports people a belief in themselves that they can achieve top results.
The great British public can also play a leading part by giving encouragement to the sports people as we build up to the 2012 London Olympics. There are many sports activities taking place and they need to be supported. By attending different sports activities we will give the athletes the idea that they are being supported. This will certainly encourage them to not only train harder but to have that self belief to win.
